“Making a delicious and healthy treat doesn’t need to be time-consuming or expensive,” says Holistic Wellness Coach and Vegan Chef Annette Licitra of Passionette Palate. This Peanut Butter Cup Banana protein smoothie will fill you up without stretching your waistline. The best part? It is entirely plant-based! All you need are simple ingredients such as bananas, cacao, peanut butter, Vega protein powder, and coconut milk.
Joey Thurman: Smoothie time. We're making a smoothie with my friends, Annette, and what is our base that we're using?
Annette Licitra: So, we're actually going to be using Vega protein powder. It's a vanilla bean, and so we're going to just get started using it.
Joey Thurman: That's why I have some muscles. I don't know if you saw these, but these are muscles.
Annette Licitra: Yes, absolutely. Oh, now I see it.
Joey Thurman: Okay, there we go. All right, cool.
Annette Licitra: So, we're going to be using two bananas. We're just going to be using a base of bananas. I love bananas because-
Joey Thurman: I love bananas in smoothies. They just cut through everything.
Annette Licitra: Yeah, and they give it a really nice sweetness.
Joey Thurman: Yeah.
Annette Licitra: And then we're going to be putting in our delicious vanilla bean Vega protein powder.
Joey Thurman: Oh, yum.
Annette Licitra: So, this is probably about a scoop or two you can put in there.
Joey Thurman: Okay.
Annette Licitra: And then I'm going to be using raw cacao, so cocoa, give it a nice chocolatey ...
Joey Thurman: Cacao. You can't say cacao without smiling, right?
Annette Licitra: True. Cacao.
Joey Thurman: Cacao. There we go.
Annette Licitra: Yeah. So, we're going to use that, so this is really, really simple. And the next thing we're going to do is just put the peanut butter in there. It's nice, like peanut butter cups, so chocolate, peanuts.
Joey Thurman: Brings me back to when I was a kid. I mean, this is much more healthy than what I was eating.
Annette Licitra: Yes. Oh my gosh, me too.
Joey Thurman: Peanut butter, banana, chocolate, delicious Vega smoothie. Whatever term you want to give it.
Annette Licitra: Yes. Very, very simple. And then the last thing we're putting in here is coconut milk. So, I'm just going to use that just to ... it's going to sweeten it up a little bit again, to use some natural sugars in there.
Joey Thurman: And you like coconut milk over any other milks?
Annette Licitra: I do. I like it a little more than using any sort of almond milk, or you could use hemp seed milk, or you could use a different one, but it's just the coconut milk gives it a nice flavor, and it's a little bit more creamy because it's got a little extra fat in it.
Joey Thurman: Makes sense.
Annette Licitra: Yeah. So, that's why I like using the coconut milk. So, we're just going to put that directly on there. Well, actually, this one might be not as loud as I thought. So, I'm going to just pump it up a little bit.
Joey Thurman: Oh, I like the hum.
Annette Licitra: Yes.
Joey Thurman: It's almost like the Tesla of smoothie makers.
Annette Licitra: True. Oh, that's good, yeah.
Joey Thurman: It's like, mm.
Annette Licitra: That's true. And this doesn't take long at all. I mean, you want to talk abo fast food, that was what? Maybe not even 15 seconds.
Joey Thurman: Oh, I like that. Fast food that's good for you.
Annette Licitra: Yeah, so this is fast food, yes. Oh, I love this.
Joey Thurman: Well done.
Annette Licitra: And look at how creamy that is.
Joey Thurman: Oh, I can smell it.
Annette Licitra: Yes.
Joey Thurman: You can smell the Vega-
Annette Licitra: Oh, and the vanilla bean.
Joey Thurman: And the vanilla. Look at that.
Annette Licitra: Yes, that's in there. And I love, there's maca root directly in the Vega protein powder.
Joey Thurman: Maca?
Annette Licitra: Yes. So, that one is for you.
Joey Thurman: Thank you, appreciate that.
Annette Licitra: Yeah, absolutely. And then we've got another one just for me. Oh yeah, that smells really good.
Joey Thurman: Look at that pour, I mean that's a good shot and everything. Man.
Annette Licitra: Oh, isn't so creamy? That is so beautiful.
Joey Thurman: Social media worthy and everything.
Annette Licitra: Yes, I know.
Joey Thurman: All right, we going to cheers?
Annette Licitra: Cheers, absolutely.
Joey Thurman: Thank you. Got to look me in the eyes. It's bad luck.
Annette Licitra: Yes. You're right, that's true.
Joey Thurman: Got it. Okay, cool. All right.
Annette Licitra: Cheers, yes.
Joey Thurman: Oh, that's good.
Annette Licitra: Oh, that's delicious.
Joey Thurman: Creamy.
Annette Licitra: Mm-hmm (affirmative), very creamy.
Joey Thurman: I could see even if you put a bunch of ice in it, it kind of gets that frosty flavor.
Annette Licitra: Oh, yes.
Joey Thurman: I would give this to my child, as opposed to some sort of bad fast food.
Annette Licitra: So, yeah, and here I like this. So, speaking of children, or just anybody in general, you can freeze smoothies and make it into ice cream, so that's a really nice way to do it.
Joey Thurman: Wow.
Annette Licitra: Mind blown, I know.
Joey Thurman: I never would have thought about that.
Annette Licitra: Yes. So, you can actually put it in the fridge and it can get a little creamier too, if it sits in there for a little bit longer, but in the freezer it turns into ice cream.
Joey Thurman: I like it.
Annette Licitra: Yeah.
Joey Thurman: And that is your peanut butter, chocolate chip, banana ... Whatever name you want to give it.
Annette Licitra: Right.
Joey Thurman: The great thing about smoothies is because you can give it whatever name you want, right?
Annette Licitra: That's true. Yes.
Joey Thurman: That's it. Put a little Vega in your smoothie, put it in your belly.
Annette Licitra: You are all set to go.
Joey Thurman: And you're set.
Annette Licitra: Yes.
Joey Thurman: Cheers.
Annette Licitra: Salut.
