Holistic Wellness Coach and Chef, Annette Licitra, encourages consumers, particularly children, to read nutrition and ingredient labels. Teach kids how to understand what our plates should look like and empower them to choose what goes into their bodies.
As a former food industry professional, I did get an opportunity to see what went into the food system. And I'm so big on just people reading their ingredient labels. And I think teaching the kids to read ingredient labels as well is very, very important because they are sponges. So that's one thing, is to understand is knowing that they really do pay attention. You know, it might not seem like they're paying attention right away, but they do. They do. And I know that they're paying attention to what goes in their bodies then too, because that becomes a very important key for them over time. And it may not be right away just to say, "Okay, well, how is this affecting my body?" But they're listening. And then they start to really pay attention.
So that's a big thing that I would like to encourage and empower kids and of course the parents, is to look at what's going into the food system, what's going into their food and how to shift it a little bit and show them what whole real food looks like. I know that they do know what that looks like, but I feel that that's something we can really still do a little bit better on is showing them what is going into the food system. What should our plates really look like?
