Impossible Foods secured Child Nutrition (CN) label through USDA authorizing plant-based meat to be served in school lunchrooms. Three states are piloting the program, but the new business model has the potential to sweep the nation.
Welcome to Talking Plant Protein. I’m Nicole Astra and this is Industry News.
Impossible Foods commitment to improving accessibility to climate-friendly food options has led to a new business venture. Research has uncovered an encouraging link between young consumers and climate change.
Mintel data from 2020, indicates 71% of parents with children under 18 say their kids help to pick out food at the grocery store and Impossible Foods first Kids in the Kitchen study reported “a growing awareness of the connection between plate and planet. Younger generations are more inclined to view climate change and biodiversity as priorities and make purchase decisions accordingly.”
Impossible Foods worked with the US Department of Agriculture to secure a Child Nutrition label and their products will be served in select school lunch programs across the nation.
CEO and Founder, Pat Brown states “Schools not only play a role in shaping children’s dietary patterns, they play an important role in providing early education about climate change and its root causes. We are thrilled to be partnering with K-12 school districts across the country to lower barriers to access our plant-based meat for this change-making generation.”
